For too many, legal barriers perpetuate cycles of poverty, whether through eviction, denial of benefits, wage theft, or discrimination. Without access to legal counsel, vulnerable people remain voiceless and unprotected.

In our nation, too many of our neighbors are forced to sleep in shelters, cars, or on the streets, simply because safe, stable housing is out of reach. We believe that housing is not a privilege, but a human right and a sacred responsibility shared by all of us.

Every person deserves the dignity of a home. When families have a safe place to live, children can thrive in school, adults can find and keep jobs, and seniors can live with security and peace. Yet, every day, countless Marylanders struggle to survive without this basic foundation.

That’s where we come in. Our legal aid team helps clients access the benefits that sustain life: food stamps, Social Security, unemployment insurance, and rent assistance.
