The OHRA Detention Initiative will start operating as soon the OHRA has granted the recognition and the accreditation of its staff members. The initiative fosters the provision of legal orientation and representation to immigrant adults who are held by the Department of Homeland Security/Immigration and Customs Enforcement in immigration detention.

The OHRA detention Initiative will be operating through making available its staff members to speak with individuals detained by ICE regarding their cases, and screen these individuals for possible representation. OHRA staff and volunteers will also be conducting presentations and individual screenings at detention centers. During these visits, detained individuals may meet one-on-one with OHRA staff members and volunteers and may obtain legal representation for their immigration case.
WHO WE CAN HELP

Individuals in ICE or criminal custody in Maryland, and surrounding regions, as well as their family members and friends may contact OHRA for a legal screening and possible representation. OHRA will be representing detained individuals, regardless of their background, in their applications before the Immigration Court, Board of Immigration Appeals, USCIS, and ICE. We will be focusing on detainees including individuals who have been found not competent by the Immigration Court. OHRA also will be representing and referring individuals for representation in bond hearings and requests for release to ICE.
Detained individuals and their families are advised to leave messages for OHRA staff via the following email: detention@orpe.org
